The exams are almost over and the summer holidays are nearly here. That means there will be a lot of activity around our complexes as our students begin to leave us until the next academic year.

For all of our Farranlea Hall students who will be vacating their rooms over the coming weeks, we would like to take this opportunity to remind them that our waste and recycling bins are located behind block A. We would encourage everybody to recycle as much as they can so as to reduce the amount of waste material sent to landfill.

Below are our recommendations for your waste disposal, recycling and unwanted clothes at Farranlea Hall:-

- A large skip will be delivered to the waste and recycling area behind Block A on Wednesday 25th May 2011. All waste that cannot be recycled should be placed in this skip or the general waste bins that are there throughout the year.

- We have recycling bins for paper, cardboard, plastic bags & bottles, aluminium/steel cans. Please ensure that the recycling bins are not contaminated with incorrect materials such as food or drink.

- Students can place all empty glass bottles and jars in the 2 green wheelie bins provided (no cardboard or plastic bags please).

- If students wish to donate some of their clothes to charity, there is a pink Breast Cancer Ireland clothes bin at the back of Block A beside the 2 green glass recycling bins.

- Students who wish to donate their duvet, pillows or blankets to a homeless charity can leave them at reception.

100MB Broadband Confirmed for Farranlea Hall Student Accommodation

Due to the outstanding success of our broadband upgrade at Sheares Gate, we are now delighted to confirm that from next August, Farranlea Hall Student Accommodation, The Spires Student Accommodation and Davcon Court Student Accommodation will also have UPC’s Fibre Powered 100MB Broadband service installed. As a result, all College Accommodation Cork residents will experience speeds of up to 100MB down and 10MB from the start of the next semester. Students will be able to Skype, download HD videos and work on their projects all at the same time.

Ground works will be commencing in all complexes in early June 2011 after the vast majority of our students have completed their examinations and vacated their rooms for the summer holidays. This will give the technicians plenty time to install and test the systems so that all our students can benefit from the quickest broadband speeds available for the coming academic year 2011/12.

With new and more demanding bandwidth applications showing up on the market daily we feel it is important to stay ahead of the curve by providing this incredible service for FREE which demonstrates once again our commitment to excellence and to making life as stress free as possible for our students.

Reduced Cork Student Accommodation Rates

A First for Sheares Gate

Sheares Gate, Cork’s most prestigious student accommodation location, has done it again!

We are the first location/business in Cork City to obtain and provide UPC’s Fibre Powered 100MB Broadband service. Our students are now experiencing speeds of up to 100MB down and 10MB up and therefore Sheares Gate has become the UCC Accommodation with the best broadband service.

CIT Student Elections

The Executive Elections of CIT Students’ Union will take place on Thursday 10th March 2011.

Nominations will open on 21st February 2011 with forms available from the Students’ Union office.

Nominations will close at 5:00pm Friday 4th March 2011
