The Spires Cork Student Housing FAQs

What are reception opening hours?

Reception is open from 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. Our telephone number is +353 21 4525952 or dial 100 from the internal apartment phones.

Is there security on site?

Yes, we have residential wardens that are on duty from 6pm to 9am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday as well as on Bank Holidays. They are contactable on +353 21 4310157 or +353 21 4703978 and they live in their own apartment on the complex.

Is there parking?

Yes, we have a limited number of secure parking spaces available. Please contact reception for details.

How far is UCC?

It is a 5 minute walk to the main campus.

Is there a shop nearby?

Yes, there is a Centra shop located only a 2 minute walk up the road. There is also a small corner store even closer.

Is Smoking allowed?

No, the entire complex is non-smoking and all rooms are fitted with smoke detectors.

Where can I put my bike?

All bicycles can be locked on bicycle racks located in our secure gated car park.

How do we get to the bus or train station?

You can get the No. 14 bus to Patrick Street which is only a 5 minute walk from the bus station. If getting a train, you should get the No. 5 from College Road (5 minute walk) which goes directly to Kent Train Station.

Are credit card payments accepted?

No. The methods of payment that we accept are cheque, bank transfer or cash paid at reception only.

How do we get to The Spires from the airport?

You have two options
a) You can get a Taxi direct costing approximately €15.00.
b) You can get a bus into the city centre for approximately €6.00 and then the No. 14 from Patrick Street to The Spires for approximately €2.00.

What is your cancellation policy?

First Years: A cancellation charge of €50.00 applies up to 27th August 2012. After this date the full deposit is non-refundable; all cancellations must be made in writing or by email.
Non First Years: A cancellation charge of €50.00 applies up to 13th August 2012. After this date the full deposit is non-refundable, all cancellations must be made in writing or by email.

What If I leave early?

The booking/security deposit will not be refunded if a student decides to leave before the period of residence is complete. Rent and Utility payments will only be refunded if the room is re-let.

Can I deduct booking deposit from rent payment?

No, deposit and rent are two separate payments.

What is the size of a single bed?

W: 90cm, L: 190cm.

What is the size of a double bed?

W: 140cm, L: 190cm.

Is there a TV in the apartment?

There is one TV in the living room. There are TV sockets in all bedrooms so you can have your own TV.

Do I have my own bathroom?

Yes, each student has their own bathroom and bedroom with only the kitchen and living area shared amongst the residents of each apartment.
